Social Media Training is Important

Social Media TrainingDo you have a social media training programme in place for your business?

Even if you’re a small business with a handful of employees, the chances are that you are using two or three social media channels in your digital marketing. If that’s the case, the time has come for you to embrace not just a social media policy, but also some ongoing social media training for your staff. Here are the reasons why…

  • Generally 60% of employees want to promote and support their employer’s business. Your team will share company information through their own social networks. You need to be sure that when they promote your company, the information they are sharing allies with your company values.
  • 8% of companies have fired someone over improper or unsuitable social media posts. You have spent time and money investing in your staff, you have created a great team. Don’t lose somebody, purely because you haven’t provided them with the correct social media training.
  • 20% of companies have disciplined a staff member because of inappropriate social media use. Again a disciplinary hearing takes time and resources. Wouldn’t you consider that time and those resources better spent providing valuable social media training?

Whilst a social media policy is critical for all organisations; any policy in place will only serve its purpose if your staff read it, and more importantly understand its value. You may well have a customer care policy in place; however, the chances are you also provide customer service training, so that your team really grasp what you’re trying to achieve in terms of customer experience and satisfaction. It stands to reason then that a social media training programme is vital in terms of empowering your staff to understand the importance of any social media guidelines you have in place.

Social media training, can’t be a one hit wonder either. Social media platforms are fast paced and ever changing; to that end it’s likely that your company’s platforms, policies and digital promotions will continually change; empower your staff to be your champions for you by keeping them up to date, offer refresher training in social media on a regular basis.

Even if you have only one or two employees it’s really important to keep them updated with social media training, whether that be in house or through an external company, (like Kate Coote.). Remember that social media is a team sport, all teams are better with coaching, and the same can be said for social media training, it can only enhance your company’s ability to stay ahead in your game.

At Kate Coote. we can tailor a social media training programme specifically for your business; we also offer one-on-one social media training. Please contact us, or sign up to our newsletter to hear about upcoming seminars.
