Did you know that in 2010 there were 1.97 billion Internet users worldwide? Fast forward to 2019 and that figure has increased to 4.39 billion. As we enter a new decade of digital, the number of Internet users will continue to grow. So, it’s more important than ever that your business should get found online in 2020.
But how can you compete in a crowded and increasingly noisy digital world? In this blog, I thought I’d share a few tips to help you get found online in 2020.
Get Found Online in 2020:
Get a WordPress Website:
Search engines remain one of the best sources of online traffic. Having a WordPress website can give you an advantage in the SEO game. This CMS platform has many SEO friendly features straight out of the box. But, more importantly, there are a host of SEO plugins that work with WordPress websites to help you get found online. Yes, there are other website CMS platforms out there. But in my experience Squarespace, Wix and Weebly don’t come anywhere near WordPress when it comes to SEO features.
Get Serious about Social:
So, you may be using Facebook for business. Perhaps you’ve embraced Instagram. And, if your business has been around for a while, you might also be an active Tweeter. But… Have you found the best channels for your business?
You need to take three steps to find out which channels will be most effective for your business.
- First, define your audience. Think gender, age, occupation and their average income.
- Next, define your goals. How do you want to use your social channels? It might be for brand recognition, it might be sales, or it might be to deliver excellent customer service.
- Finally, find out which social channels your defined audience is using.
Register for Referrals:
As a small business, you probably rely on word-of-mouth referrals. But take these digital in 2020. If you know you offer outstanding service, let other people review you. There are some great third-party sites out there that can drive traffic to your website and help you get found online.
Create Content:
Content is still King! Even in 2020, a quarter of a century after the first blog was written, Google will be on the lookout for fresh, quality content. Every time it crawls your website, it looks for content it hasn’t seen before. If it can’t find any, it will wait a while before bothering to index your site again. But if it does find fresh content, it will revisit sooner. Regular indexing of your website will ensure your website features on Google searches.
